Dr. Matthew Puakahakoililaniamanuia Makalua & Son James
Dr. Makalua is the son of M. Makalua (1841-1902 Buried @Pu'upiha Cemetery Lahaina Maui)
and Kaipoleimanu Kahoohanohano Makalua (1841-1906 buried Pauoa Hawaiian Cemetery Oahu). 
He is also the brother of Kapahukapuopakaalana (died Lahaina 1885).
He was sent to London England by King Kalakaua to study western medicine.
He graduated from Kings College London in 1892.
